Rotox

Rotox, nee Kowolski, is a Robocop-style rebuilt dude, a fighting machine with metal bits where once there was only soft flesh. (Yuck!) And he needs thorough testing to avoid that embarassing bits-falling-off scenario mid-combat. So his makers whizz him off to a small base they happen to know just outside Neptune and throw everything they've got at him - big, tough, things with massive guns and bombs.

Each level of the game consists of a large flat plain divided into a grid of nine sections. These sections are various shapes depending on the theme of the level - cars, spaceships, and so on. You view the playing area from overhead, and see Rotox's head and shoulders as he strides about. The view centres on him and rotates as he turns. You have to be careful you don't fall over the edge of platforms because it's a long way down. To make it even more difficult, to cross between sections you have to negotiate tricky sliding platforms.

And, of course, from all sides you're constantly being attacked by nasties of all descriptions. You've got a gun but the bullets seem to emerge from one arm, making it awkward to line up shots.

So the levels progress, getting trickier in design and more ferocious in what they throw at you. It's all good fun for a while, but hardly original and not likely to induce heavy addiction. The sound and graphics aren't particularly special either. Not an epic, but then again, not a disaster.
