If you missed our interview with the developers of MotoGP: Online Demo (Issue 10), then you may not know what you get with the game. The online demo comprises three tracks from the original MotoGP (Issue 04, 8.9), plus some of the slower bikes. If you own the original game, the demo will recognise your save game, allowing you to race on all eleven tracks and use the bikes you've unlocked.
The Good Bits
The great handling is largely unchanged, so the racing is still the best on Xbox, and the graphics - among Xbox's most impressive - remain unchanged, too.
Getting into a game is easy, and the action lends itself perfectly to online multiplayer. With sixteen humans on the track, the action's unpredictable and makes races more exciting than the offline game. You'll need to do a lot of playing if you hope to win - and seeing your name rise up the worldwide rankings is incredibly satisfying.
Four people can compete online from one Xbox, combining top sofa action with the larger multiplayer antics Xbox Live allows for. And the action stays as smooth as ever. The network code is probably the best we've seen so far, as we've hardly experienced any lag or drops in play at all.
The Bad Bits
The only real bummer is that the three tracks unlocked for the demo aren't quite enough for long-term play. But then, the point of the demo is to show you how cool the game is, and it does that very well. The only other problem has been the odd idiot racing around the track the wrong way. Thing is, Xbox Live is less susceptible to game-spoiling antics like this, because people are stuck with just one gamertag - the bad feedback will soon pile up against morons like this.
Conclusions
With a full field of like-minded chums, MotoGP: Online Demo is amazing fun. If you followed our advice back in Issue 04, then you'll already own MotoGP, and when you put the two together you've got one of the best racing experiences ever.
