Moritz On The Autobahn

Ah, trekking through Europe is any gap year student's dream, checking out the sights and the local traditions of each area. How hardcore would it be to undertake such travels in a Sinclair C5? This is exactly where we find Moritz in his latest adventure. Starting in Germany, the player must control Moritz in his plastic recumbent vehicle and leap all over the level to collect the love hearts. Once collected, he must make his way to the traffic lights, which serve as the exit. Don't expect it to be plain sailing though - each level has a variety of locals that don't like tourists and guarantee to get in Moritz's way of gathering up those hearts.

The game progresses through Belgium, France, England, Ireland and Spain - expect to see many stereotypical references.

Gordon

The globe-trotting concept of Moritz is a neat idea, and it gives a definite sense of progression as you move on from level to level. Okay, the stereotypical views of each country are entertainingly laughable (Come on, it doesn't always rain in the UK!), but they do provide a humorous viewpoint of an outsider looking in.

The graphics are brilliant, and they add such vibrant charm to all the locales. It still is your run-of-the-mill single screen Manic Miner variant, but it oozes charm that makes it a little more unique. The game is not without its frustrations - the non-linear difficulty curve of the game is its biggest weakness; You can get stumped on a level for ages, only to find that after completion, the following level is way easier.

Overall, it's a fun game, if somewhat limited.

Ben

Moritz has nine lives to complete the Autobahn, and you're going to need every last one of them! You will be frustrated and elated in equal measure as you negotiate the platforms of each location. If you like twitchy platforming, with some 'almost pixel-perfect' jumping then this game will serve you well. If you don't, then this game will probably drive you mad.

It's presented beautifully, with excellent graphics, a slick menu system, smooth, responsive controls, particularly good music, and enough variety in the level design to keep you entertained until the end. While not being too difficult to complete, the Autobahn will require patience.
