Moonfall

Remember Elite? A classic (especially on the old 8-bits). Well, Moonfall isn't anything like it. Actually, that's not quite true. Moonfall borrows many of Elite's ideas and sets you down on a mining moon with only a hovercar and an enormous pile of weapons.

The idea is to trade with the cities on the base to gain enough dosh to buy it. Hmm. In order to get these Lunariums you must barter at the various cities you find scattered around.

Making things, erm, even more riveting are some aliens who are out to stop you. They seem to prefer staying in, though, so for much of the time your progress is unhindered.

Verdict

The views are 3D, but your craft has stabilisers which very effectively stop it banking, diving or otherwise doing anything particularly interesting. Collision with any ground detail results in you bouncing backwards. Ho hum. Moonfall is a non-starter. Exploring isn't much fun and trading is deadly dull, so if you're an Elite fan, play Elite.

In Brief

  1. Can run on single-sided drives
  2. Based on Elite, but without the gameplay, excitement or addictiveness
