Mashed: Fully Loaded

Buy this and your multitap will weep tears of joy!

This 'new' edition is more of a remix, with a sprinkle of extra tracks, new modes, challenges and tweaks in graphics and car handling. And with the equivalent of new halogen spots and chrome exhaust trim, Fully Loaded's motoring mayhem revs up the fun engine more than ever. Four of you tear around in tiny cartoon-style cars, trying to take the lead; picking up machine guns, dropping oil slicks; even if you get knocked out there's the option to fire homing missiles from the sidelines.

The single-player still lags behind, wheezing as it tries to keep up with the multiplayer excellence. There's nothing wrong with playing alone, but without a multitap and a few mates, Mashed will only ever be half a game. The new challenges go some way to make up for the original's one-player shortcomings. But this is a game that's all about a screaming rabble of mates, baying for blood as a craft shunt sends someone's car to a flaming end off a cliff edge.

Mashed Fully Loaded

Now the tricky bit. Should you buy it? The original scored a rather nippy 90% and if you own that then you're probably better off waiting for the sequel. There's plenty of new stuff, and a bargain price to boot, but it's still the same game. However, if you've yet to dip your spoon into multiplayer gaming, then it doesn't get much better than Mashed - the addictive mix of racing and trigger-happy power-ups makes this an essential party purchase.

Verdict

Graphics 70%
Plenty of variety shown in the tracks.

Sound 60%
Vrooms and bangs aplenty.

Gameplay 90%
Unbelievably addictive multiplayer fun.

Lifespan 80%
Lasts as long as you have friends.

Overall 80%
One of the best multi-player games around with some extras and an attractive price. Perhaps not worth it if you have the original though.
