Lost Soul

Vragnor, your brother, is a wizard. What's more, he's very pissed off with you for chucking him out of the family house when you were both nippers, and how he's back, wand in hand, for a spot of revenge. The object of his wrath is your fiancee Jenny, whose soul he steals. Your job is to defeat your brother and see that her soul is returned to its correct home.

Lost Soul is a graphical adventure, created using a modified version of STAC the adventure creator (naturally). There are 81 different locations to explore, half of which have extremely well drawn graphics. The program includes over 500K of text - meaning that long descriptions add to the very tasty graphic screens.

Verdict

New graphic adventures are very thin on the ground, so it's something of a pleasure when one emerges. In this case it comes from a new group of programmers after three years in production, and though the game itself is very standard, it's obvious that a lot of that time went into paying close attention to small details.

For ten quid you're getting a decent adventure game containing some great puzzles. The game area isn't very large, however, and the STAC influence on the game is very obvious. It remains to be seen whether the market for this type of game still exists.
