Gary Lineker's Hot Shot

This game claims it's "the most realistic football game ever produced for the home computer". This begs two questions: 1. Which home computer? and 2. How do they get away with it?

Before the game starts you can name the teams, alter their strip colours or change the time of the match and the division you play in. The match proper is viewed from above as in Kick Off 2. The usual moves are available but there are no real surprises. The players moe fairly realistically but they unfortunately have extremely sticky feet whenever the ball is concerned. While this technique makes controlling the ball easy, scoring a goal isn't quite so simple. The ball isn't so well animated. It jerks about and seems to waver up and down while flying through the air. A neat trick if you could control it!

It doesn't touch Kick Off 2, which is still the best footy sim for the ST, but if you haven't seen the former this might be a good proposition. It's not as bad as certain other sims and offers a fair game for the casual player who's not too interested in the subtler points of control. It's the sort of game that does work well as a budget title.
