Footballer Of The Year 2

Before you run and hide, Footballer Of The Year 2 (surely "Footy?") is not just another footy sim - it concentrates more on the management side of things. As a player in a Superleague, you have the chance to spend money on a certain number of "goalcards" each week, which give you the opportunity to score a goal. The more cards you buy, the more chances you get. Certain tactics are displayed before each match, showing how your teammates are going to arrange themselves in front of the goalmouth. It's your job to remember your part of the plan and be in the right place at the right time to boot the ball into the net. Miss and you're in disgrace. There's no game as such, just these short set-pieces before the goal.

You also have the chance to play double or nothing by answering a trivia question on the history of football. Or if you feel your club is a dead loss, put yourself on the transfer market and try to get moved somewhere else.

Footballer Of The Year 2 is a weird hybrid of management games. There's actually very little to do,save buy goalcards (what the hell are goalcards anyway?), get involved in what little action there is and watch your statistics do nothing at all. Most of the screens are text displays with the odd menu, but the animation on the "action" bits is adequate, though it wouldn't win any awards. On the whole, the concept just doesn't include enough to do to keep you interested for any length of time. Different doesn't always necessarily mean good.
