Fairly odd name, fairly average game

Fairly Odd Parents: Shadow Showdown

It's saying something when the DVD-style extras on a videogame disc are more interesting than the game itself. With Fairly Odd Parents: Shadow Showdown, you get a full 25-minute episode of the show buried on the disc, plus a 'making of the game' documentary that tells you how they turned the surprisingly enjoyable Nickelodeon/BBC Saturday morning hangover show into a game. Unfortunately these need to be unlocked, and unsurprisingly the game-u-mentary doesn't pinpoint how or why they turned a fairly funny cartoon into such a drearily obvious platforming action/adventure.

The quality cartoon-esque visuals and sound (using all the voices from the series) are totally faithful, but the limited number of levels (just six, but they are based on actual episodes, apparently) means this will barely last you past lunchtime.

Verdict

Customary 'fans of the show will love this' fare - not bad for them; not great for us. A cartoon of this calibre deserves a far better game than what's on offer here.
