The Digimon series has had increasing popularity in the U.S. and it was only a matter of time until fans would get their hands on a card battle game. Digimon Card Battle is the digital version of the card game and fans get to battle it out in full 3D.
Players start out with thirty cards each and each card has its own speciality. For example, a Fire card has weak HP and strong attack power, while an Ice card has strong HP and weak attack power. Each speciality cancels another out to keep balance in the game. Support cards that give a player an edge in a specific category can also be found in the deck.
There are different levels for each card - Rookie, Championship, and Ultimate. The higher the level, the more complex your character is and the less it can Digivolve, or transform. Players have to match their card level with the same card level as a Digivolve card in order to power-up.
In battle, players choose one card each to battle one another. You can watch your battle in 3D at 60 fps, or you can skip it and head right to the HP deduction. It's pretty fun to watch to Digimon characters attack. They all move in like-ness to their cartoon counterparts and can do some major damage.
When you aren't battling you can head to the Battle Cafe to talk to other card battlers, the Fusion shop to fuse to cards and create a new card, or the Players' Room to look at your stats. There are five areas to compete in and battles can last a good half hour or more.
Digimon and card battle fans will find a comprehensive game in Digimon Card Battle, but non-fans could be turned off by the digital world.
