Most software houses use the summer months to re-release old games, and Coin-Op Hits 2 is the latest in this line. Dynasty Wars is an average beat-'em-up with bland graphics and chronic gameplay. Basically, hundreds of tiny oriental chaps run on-screen and you have to chop them down with your large sword. Sprite detection and movement are lousy and the sound consists of a few warbling chip noises.
Ninja Spirit is another oriental slice/dice-'em-up. Do battle with Ninjas, Samurais, giant Ninjas, kitemen, wolves and Musketeers. Gameplay is very difficult and the graphics small but attractively designed. Certainly a challenge.
Ghouls 'N Ghosts runs against the flavour of the pack - it's actually a very good game. You control a knight who's on a crusade to rescue a princess. Legions of nasty dragons, skeletons and bullet-spitting plants are out to ruin your day. An excellent game with long lasting appeal.
Hammerfist is a futuristic shoot-'em-up set in the year 2215. You control two holograms, Hammerfist and Metalisis, and you must switch between these two characters to do battle with the security droids and guards. YOu must ultimately wipe out a big central computer. Gameplay is cliched, though, and thoroughly cheesy.
Last and definitely leasy comes Vigilante, a Kung Fu game set in New York in 1994. By this date, apparently, the city is anarchic. The game follows a hackneyed theme, with hackneyed graphics and sound. Little to recommend here.
