Cartoon Line
"Dig! Dig! I screamed in frustration as the buffalo stampeded towards the cowboy in the middle of the screen who is supposedly under my control. Too late! He was rocketed into the air and, well, what goes up must come down. Ouch!
Cartoon Line is as much fun to watch as it is to play. The storyline basically goes like this: a little guy called LBJ is confronted in the Wild West by several attackers such as brutal buffalos, evil Indians, savage snakes and a whole handful more. You must kill, avoid or hurt the assassins.
When you've defeated all of them at least once in each trial, you meet the shamen who leads you to the next level. There you'll meet more killers. The graphics and sound effects are excellent and our hero dies in sometimes funny and sometimes gross ways.
Although more like a cartoon than a game it does require a certain amount of skill to stay alive, I would like to have seen if the opponents on the higher levels were as amusing, but it is annoyingly hard to complete the first level. It is the sort of game that requires an awful lot of patience and after a while I felt like ramming the keyboard through the screen.
You can walk left or right, jump, duck and use the predefined action key to do whatever is necessary. When the Red Indian charges at him, pressing the action key makes LBJ draw his gun and shoot; when the scorpion crawls up to him the action key causes him to stamp on it. But you have to be very accurate and you don't always know quite how you did it - making it very difficult to repeat!
At first I really enjoyed the game but, after a while, it became frustrating because, try as I might, I simply couldn't get to the next level. It is good fun with really fantastic graphics and sounds, but not recommended for people who get bored easily.
