Most of GA's readers expect more classic Capcom games on disk. But for the Amish just joining us after swearing off a simple life for one that includes electricity, scented hair products and the Internet, let's begin at the beginning: Capcom made a lot of the games that filled arcades of the old days (and continues making games today). They are also leading the way in offering collections of arcade games that run on current hardware, and Capcom Classics Collection Volume 2 is the latest.
The Drill: Each of these games is reproduced very well. Some of them you will remember fondly, for they are truly classics. Some of them you will remember with disdain, for they stunk now and will always stink. Some of them you will not remember at all until you play them again. As with most other Capcom collections, the good games far outweigh the bad, making this a worthy disk to own if any of these titles was one of your childhood favorites.
Here's the list: 1941, Avengers, Black Tiger, Block Block, Captain Commando, Eco Fighters, The King of Dragons, Knights of the Round, Last Duel, Magic Sword, Mega Twins, Quiz & Dragons, Side Arms, Street Fighter, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Strider, Speed Rumbler, Three Wonders and Tiger Road.
Most of these games will not be appearing on services like the 360 Live Arcade. Collections like these (not all are created equal) offer more variety for less money than any pay-per-game service. They also include games that most of us have forgotten and which wouldn't sell as well on their own - an important distinction when we look ahead a few years and wonder where Psychonauts and Beyond Good & Evil may end up. And for those who prefer physical possessions to digitized property, collections like this will always have a place on the shelf.
