Pro Boxing Simulator (Codemasters)

Thud, crash, groan, smack, crunch. Yes, I had loads of trouble getting out of WH Smith's without paying for this one. When I finally did arrive back at home (4 down on the whole deal), I found it to be a hilarious boxing game.

Two very unrealistic people stand in a ring and fight each other, while the ref wobbles around and the crowd calls out insults. Matters are made more interesting by the illegal moves you can use. As well as high and low punches, you can kick, knee, head-butt and all but take a machete to your opponent.

You start off by tackling a weedy guy called Mild Martin (with a name like that, he deserves to have his body kicked off him). Beat him and harder opponents line up to take you on. You can also play another human opponent, which is more fun.

It's fairly amusing but Pro Boxing Simulator isn't fast or smooth enough to warrant a withdrawal from your bank (TSB - The Shoebox Bank).

Frame Rate

Not bad for a laugh but not exactly a knockout.
