Back To The Future: It's About Time

Telltale Games is well known in the adventure game market for its work on such titles as Sam & Max, Monkey Island and Wallace & Gromit. It's About Time is the first episode of its newest franchise, the popular time-travelling science fiction film series Back To The Future. Set six months after the events of the third film, the DeLorean time machine returns to Hill Valley without the Doc. Marty McFly must go back in time and save Dr Emmett Brown to ensure that the space time continuum isn't permanently destroyed.

The main thing that you'd expect from a game with the illustrious Back To The Future name is that it's true to the original films in respect to style and voice. With Christopher Lloyd reprising his original role as Doctor Emmett L. Brown and Bob Gale, the film's co-creator and co-writer collaborating, these expectations are easily fulfilled. AJ Locasio sounds as close to Marty as it's possible to get without Michael J. Fox, and really helps to immerse you in the franchise.

Regarding the puzzles, they're fun and can be worked out relatively easily if you're familiar with the Telltale style of game. If you haven't, or just can't work out how to solve them, there's a useful hint system, which can give you four different hints ranging from a vague hint to a much more specific one. There's also a task system so you know what Marty has to do at all times, which is especially useful if you forget.

Overall it's a great first episode, for both fans of the genre and fans of the Back To The Future franchise. And while this review is for the PC version, the series is also available on Mac and iPad, so there's no excuse not to get it! A fan of the Back To The Future movies or the point-and-click adventure genre? Get this game!
