Not your average platform game

A-Train 6 (Midas)

The A train on platform six will not be passing through Excitementville, the buffet car does not offer a wide choice of hot thrills and the train doesn't terminate in Adrenaline City. But wait...

Excitement isn't the aim (come on, this is a train game), absorption is. And, for a time - with patience - A Train 6 is absorbing, a blank canvas, a reasonably friendly interface, dozens of different buildings and trains being all that stand between you and a colourful, bustling metropolis (or patchworked country idyll).

Of course, it's not that easy. Timetable management plays a big part and, alas, it's tremendously dull. As the city grows, so too does the need for micro-management, and that's where AT6 becomes a chore. Sticking with it can result in a great-looking cityscape but battling through the bland bits to arrive there is a big ask.

Verdict

The ultimate anorak's sandbox and engaging to anyone after a slow-paced experience.
