After what I mentioned in my last article about sending in game cheats as a print out, R. Palmer has provided a Ghouls cheat and an Alphatron cheat in that format. For your convenience I have typed them in and included them on this EUG disk.

Regular readers will already know that in EUG #3 I gave a Ghouls cheat that required you to hack into the program. However, I've included this one as it is much more convenient to use. Note that it's only been tested on the original version of Ghouls. I can see no reason for it not working on the other releases of the games (i.e. PIAS 7) except that the filename may need to be changed. If there are problems then let me know, or if you solve them yourself, again let me know. The same applies for the Alphatron cheat.

Apart from these two cheats, what else is in store for you this issue? Well, as promised in EUG #11, R. Palmer (again!) shares his solution to Arrow Of Death Part 1, EXILIR concludes, we carry on making our own Pipeline levels and who knows...? You may even get a few other cheats as well! Plenty to do.

Arrow Of Death Part 1, Adventure International

The instructions that you should type are in CAPITALS.

From the courtyard, go WEST, WEST and TURN COAT of armour three times. A secret passage will appear. GO PASSAGE and GET the SWORD you should find there. Then go WEST, GET ARMOUR and EXAMINE BED. CUT the PILLOW with the sword and EXAMINE the PURSE to find some coins. GET COINS and go EAST, EAST and EXAMINE COURTYARD. GET the ROPE, go WEST, SOUTH, EAST and EXAMINE the KITCHENS to find a hook. GET the HOOK and go WEST, NORTH, EAST, NORTH and GIVE COINS to the beggar. READ the NOTE that he drops and GET ORB. Go WEST, WEST and TIE ROPE TO HOOK. HOOK ARMOUR, GET ROPE and GO LEDGE. PULL the ROPE, GET the ARMOUR, WEAR ARMOUR and RUB ORB. GO CAVE, RUB ORB and KILL SERPANT three times. GET the ARROWHEAD. DROP ROPE and go SOUTH, DOWN, EAST, EAST, EAST, EAST and EXAMINE MESSANGER. GET the AMULET and go NORTH, EAST and WAIT...

From your new location, go NORTH and GIVE AMULET to the ferryman. WAIT, go SOUTH, EAST and CUT CHAINS to free the slave. Go WEST, SOUTH, EAST, SOUTH, UP and MOVE BOULDER. GO into the CAVE and READ the SCROLL, then go NORTH, DOWN, WEST and GET TOADSTOOLS.

Go EAST, NORTH and GO COOKHOUSE. EXAMINE the CAULDRON and DRUG the BROTH. Now type WAIT three times and go WEST, WEST and GO into the giant BUILDING. GO up the LADDER and GET the LOG. Go WEST and GO FLUME. (You should have the log). WAIT then GO BEACH. Go UP and PLUCK EAGLE to get the feathers.

From your new location, type NORTH five times and GO HUT. EXAMINE the HUT and EXAMINE the DRARF. TAKE the SPECS and GO SOUTH, NORTH and EXAMINE DEBRIS. GO TRAPDOOR, OPEN CHEST, WEAR SPECS, DROP SWORD, GET BOOK, READ BOOK, DROP BOOK, GET SWORD, REMOVE SPECS, DROP SPECS and GO UP. Then GO SOUTH, EAST, SOUTH and GO HUT. GET the MEDALLION (The guardians have a lust for silver). Finally, CUT the BRANCH to complete the game. Well done!

Elixir Part 7, Superior/Acornsoft

Now go down to the bottom of this screen and then go right. Go right again until you have passed the lipstick missiles. Go left again until you reach the room where there is the string that you have been up many a time. Go up this piece of string. When you are on the next screen, make your way up to the top and go up this string. Keep on going up until you reach the screen which contains the spirit bottle. Make your way to the top of this screen. And then go left. Get the pill out of this room and then go up the beanstalk.

Collect anything that you need out of this room and then go right. Block the leaky jar and also get anything you may need from this room. You will now be able to go into the next room. Collect anything you need from this room and you will also see a jar. This contains the soap and you have to wash the oil off your feet. If you don't, then you won't be able to complete the game. Be careful.

Now go left past the leaky jar and the flash bulbs. Stop when you reach the room with the beanstalk in it. Now go left once more and get the pill. Jump off the platform and you will land onto a slippery slope (and I mean slippery!). Now climb up the thread in this room and go to the elixir bottle.

Well done! You've completed Elixir and restored Cyril to his normal height!

Pipeline Level Designer Part 4, Superior/Acornsoft

Level Options
The following options which determine game play on a level, can be selected from the OPTIONS menu:

Start Initial position of the player
Finish Positions of the 'Finish block'
Object Positions and details up to eight objects
M. Monster Positions and details of up to four moving monsters
Puzzle Details of up to thirty-two puzzles
Collects Numbers of collectable required
Graphics Colours and graphics of the level
Time Time to complete the level
Clear Deletes all level details
'<<OK>>'Leave the menu

Start And Finish
On selecting 'Start' or 'Finish', you are presented with a three option menu: 'Define', 'Display' or '<<OK>>'. If you select 'Display', a cursor is moved to the point's location on the map. If you select 'Define', a 'Start Location' box will appear. When a 'Select Location' box is on the screen, you should move the cursor to the location you want to specify (in this case, the start or finish points on the level) and press RETURN. You can cancel the 'Select Location' box by pressing SPACE.

Object
There are eight objects allowed to be used on each level, numbered 1 to 8. After selecting this option, enter the number of the object you wish to define. You will now be presented with an eight option menu. 'Position' defines the initial position of the object. 'Exist?' determines whether or not the object is used in the level. 'Sprite no.' selects an object sprite by the number (from 1 to 15) given on the graphics designer. Sprite 16, the 'Finish Block' cannot be used as an object. 'Charge' determines the number of times, between 0 and 113, that you can use an object. If an object has no charges, it won't work but might be recharged by a puzzle (See 'Puzzle'). 'Charges', if unticked, permits an object to be used without a limit on the number of times, subject to puzzle conditions. 'Vanish' determines whether or not a puzzle will vanish when its last charge is used. If an object has no charges to begin with, it won't vanish until it has been charged and used. 'Throw' determines whether an object will or will not be automatically 'used' when it lands after being thrown. More next time.

Cheats

3D Dotty, Blue Ribbon - Infinite Lives

      >*LOAD E.DOTTY (RETURN)
      >?&3417=&EA (RETURN) (This gives infinite lives)
      >CALL &2DA5 (RETURN)

Repton, Superior - Passwords

Repton is not a particularly difficult game but for those of you who are having trouble with it or are just too lazy to win each screen, here is a complete list of passwords for this old favourite:

A SCREEN ONE
B CHAMELEON
C TERRAPIN
D SIDEWINDER
E GECKO
F PYTHON
G SCREEN ONE
H IGUANA
I CUTTLEFISH
J OCTOPUS
K GIANT CLAM
L THE KRAKEN

Survivors, Atlantis - Enter own no. of lives

This cheat will work on the cassette version of Survivors. Rewind the cassette to the start and type the following to poke however many lives as you wish into the game:

      >*LOAD SUR2 (RETURN)
      >?&1120=x (RETURN) (Substitute no. of lives for x)
      >*RUN SUR3 (RETURN)

Thunderstruck, Audiogenic - Infinite Lives

This cheat is slightly more complicated than others. Basically you need to make an alternative version of the last file on the tape. To proceed:

      >LOAD"THUNDER" (RETURN) (Last file on tape)
      >130?N%=0:GOTO110
      >SAVE"THUNDER" (RETURN) (To your OWN tape)

Now press 'BREAK' and load the game from the beginning as normal. As soon as the file D-CODE has finished loading, stop the tape. Now insert your tape that contains the cheat version of the file "THUNDER" and press play. The updated file "THUNDER" will load and you will have an infinite supply of energy. When you touch a baddy, your energy bar will go down at first, but your energy will never run out. Remember, if you make a mistake whilst playing, you can quit the current game by pressing 'I' and 'CTRL' simultaneously.

And finally, I'm taking a break next issue but would like to issue a personal plea for someone to send in the complete solution for Exile! I've got what Electron User printed and all of The Micro User cheats but I'm still stuck! If someone could submit a complete solution, I'm sure it would please just about everyone else who owns this game, as well as myself!
