Simple But Likeable Adventure

Winter Wonderland is one of the first adventures to be released under the Medallion Graphics Adventure label, and was written with the Graphic Adventure Creator.

You are an anthropologist and hear of a civilisation in Tibet which has developed at the same speed as our own but totally independent of it. Naturally, you set off for Tibet.

The site of the discovery is on the lower slopes of the Himalayas and can be reached by a light aircraft. You hire a run-down Cessna and set off. Unfortunately, a freak snowstorm causes the aircraft to be taken higher and higher into the mountains. The engine, unable to cope with the high altitude, gives up. As the plane crashes, you think you see a glint of glass. Could it be the civilisation? You've no time to think about it.

The adventure starts with you next to the wreckage of the aircraft in the middle of a large snowfield. You have to find some way to keep warm as the temperature is far below freezing. Luckily enough, on the ground next to you is a fur coat! No problem. Wandering around, you find a flare gun and after only a few moves you come across the only exit from the snow field (apart from dying). By coincidence there happens to be a bear blocking your way. Fire the fun and the bear makes a dash for it in the other direction. The rest I'll leave you to discover.

The problems facing the adventurer were, I felt, more for the person who only plays adventures occasionally and is not too experienced. For the experienced adventurer, the scenario was on the small side and the problems a little too easy, bar one or two. The adventure also uses graphics for about half the locations which are drawn rapidly and are reasonably entertaining. One point I found not to my taste was that on moving to each location the screen is cleared, deleting all the information from the previous location. This is a pet hate of mine, but should not deter anyone from purchasing a very good and enjoyable adventure.
