We Are Hejickle

This game seems awfully familiar... where have I played something like this before? Oh that's right, it seems to be heavily inspired by Sega's Dragon Crystal/Fatal Labyrinth series. For those unfamiliar with these rogue-like dungeon crawlers, the game world is randomly generated and the idea is to make it through all the floors without dying. Along the way there are items to collect and monsters to fight, and a careful balance needs to be maintained between knowing when to fight, explore or run.

Finding the exit on each floor allows you to progress to the next. We Are Hejickle has some pretty nice graphics and music, and actually goes one better than the aforementioned Sega games by not only including shops to buy items but also shows the remaining enemy health during battle which is very useful.

The area and floor number you are on is also shown on screen, and as each area has five floors you get a proper sense of progression as you play. The more I played We Are Hejickle, the more it impressed me. It is one of the few homebrew games I have played that has not only taken inspiration from other similar titles and improved upon them, but is actually a really good game in its own right.

I urge anyone who is a fan of rogue-likes to give this a shot.
