This game is certainly different, and should appeal to those with a
leaning towards war and strategy games.
The aim is to get your convoy of ships, or as many of them as you
can, through the enemy submarines and off the edge of the map.
You command either the convoy and destroyers or the subs, by
moving pieces around a map as they did in operations rooms during
the last war (if all the old films are to be believed).
The pieces are your fleet, and you have all the aids you need,
including sonar, depth charges and torpedoes to enable you to
search out and destroy the enemy.
This doesn't mean that the game is easy. Even the well-written
instructions take a long time to digest, and thinking in 3D
as the submarine commander must do is very taxing.
But it's very playable - enjoyable to pit your wits against
either another person or machine.
The graphics are very clear and don't cause any confusion, and
there is even a 'cheat' option for those getting too desperate to play
to the rules.
This is definitely a thinkers' game, but should as the makers claim
"give a challenge which lasts for months not minutes".
