Thunderforce II

Thunderforce II: it's a shoot-'em-up. There are two basic blasting styles. In the overhead eight-way levels you destroy ground targets and take out pursuit ships. In the horizontally scrolling levels, you blast anything that moves. That's about it, really!

What We Said Then

Jaz: With plenty of secret bonuses to uncover, Thunderforce II will keep you coming back to tap your highest score for quite some months.

Thunder Force II

Matt: The action is fast and furious while it lasts - I just wish there was more to it.

What We Say Now

Jaz: This looks fairly ropey nowadays. The sound's pretty good, but it lacks the thrills and spills of some of the latest blasters. Graphics down to 75%, playability and lastability down 15% each and overall down to 67%.

Rich: Thunderforce II has not endured the rigours of time very well. It looks like a decidedly substandard shoot-'em-up now, with unspectacular graphics and unexciting gameplay. I think that now it would get about 64% overall. It's just been surpassed by many games, including Gynoug, Hellfire, Thunderforce III, Thunderforce IV...
