Shipwrecked

Advice

  1. Before trying to complete Shipwrecked, print out a map using the utility supplied on EUG #33. It will prove very useful.
  2. Get used to the controls, and especially how to shoot monsters, before starting to complete Shipwrecked. You could, of course, use the cheat to make you immortal to the aliens.
  3. During the completion of the game, there are several power boosting batteries. You do not necessarily need to use them immediately, and you can leave them if you're not short of power. You can then come back to them when you do need them.
  4. Allow at least about 2-3 hours to complete Shipwrecked.

From the start, go down two screens to the bottom of the shipwreck and collect the green pass. Then go up one screen and leave the shipwreck to the right. Continue heading right until you reach the room with the red pass door. Now jump onto the left hand platform on that screen and from there onto the small platform on the right of the next screen. Finally jump from this platform as far as possible to the left - and you should land on the top of the shipwreck. Collect the red pass and return to the room with the red door.

Go through the red door and continue heading downwards until you reach a screen with no further way down. Drop the red pass here and go left through the top exit. Go through the green door and into the "Power Meter". Now go down to the right and collect the white pass. Return to the room where you left the red pass and now drop the green pass with it so you are carrying only the white pass.

Head right until you reach a screen with a white door leading down and go through this and collect the off switch. Return to the room where you dropped the two passes and pick up the green pass and the off switch. Once again, go left through the top exit and open the green door. This time, go down the left side and continue round until you reach the "Electric Cut-Off". Use the OFF switch to turn off the electricity, and now return to the room where you left the two passes before going left through the bottom exit. Go down into the service area and collect the power fish which was previously guarded by two sparks. If you need it, get the battery too!

Congratulations: You have found your first fish!

Drop the fish with the other passes, and pick up the magnet, which is behind the upper of the two green doors beside where the white pass was, and the white pass. Head right. When you reach the room with ladders and not many platforms, go up. To do this, jump across to the right-hand platform using the ladders to stop your fall. Climb up onto the top platform and jump across and catch the ladder at the top. Now go up and then walk off the ladder one square to the right. DO NOT attempt to shoot the monster from the ladder or you will fall. Instead shoot it from the platform.

After shooting the monster, jump onto the left-most ladder and jump from one ladder to the next across the top. Now leave to the right and go up into the tower, which you should leave by the right exit. Go up the chapel, through the white door, and then head right until you reach a white fish that needs to be pulled down by the magnet. You should now pick up the fish and so be holding the white pass and the fish.

Go back through the white door again and do not jump across onto the platforms at the centre of the screen, but fall down to the right. Hold down the right key so that you fall as far as you can across to the right. In doing so, you should cross the large area of water.

Go right, past the well, until you reach a screen with a seemingly purposeless stump. Jump on this to go up into the alien control room and drop the fish. If you like, visit the room to see that there are still five sparks waiting to be broken, guarding nothing behind them. This is another puzzle to be solved, as well as that of the six fish keys.

Leave the control room. Head left. To cross the area of water, jump up onto the top platform on the screen with the well and jump as far as possible to the left. Now head back the way that you came originally until you reach the area with all of the ladders. Fall down to the bottom of the area, being careful to avoid the water at the centre, and collect the cyan pass. Leave the white pass at the base of the ladders area and take only the light blue pass. Return to the room below the alien control room and then head right two more screens until you reach the tower. Quickly go through the door before the monster reaches it because if the monster reaches the door, it becomes very difficult to shoot it.

Shoot the monster when it reaches your horizontal line of fire. If you do allow the monster to reach the door, simply leave the screen and come back on again; the monster will be reset to its original position. Jump on onto the top platform on this screen and from there collect the lamp on the ceiling. You should now be carrying the cyan pass and the lamp.

Having collected the lamp from the tower, go left, dropping the cyan pass with the others on the way, and take it to the Temple of Vesta, which is just below the red door where you first entered the alien base. Here it will be lit. Then go down to the screen below, and go left as far as possible and collect the egg. Return to the screen below the Temple of Vesta and go down one screen. Exchange the egg for the cyan pass before going right two screens. Go through the cyan door at the bottom of the screen, and drop the lit lamp just behind the door. Now return left and collect the egg, so that you're holding the cyan pass and the egg. Return through the cyan door, and swap the pass for the lamp. Now go down into the dark room and left into the incubator. Drop the egg to get the chicken. Return to the cyan door, and swap the pass for the lamp, so that you leave the lit lamp behind the cyan door. Leave with the pass and chicken.

Go right as far as the chapel, and leave the pass and the chicken at the base of the chapel. Now go up and collect the blue pass from the top of the chapel. Return to the area with the ladders and now leave this area to the right so that you enter the water tanks. In the water tanks, go down done screen, using the right-most ladder, and collect the bomb from under the water. You can't return up by the ladder you came down because of the gap, but must use the centre ladder. To reach this, you must jump onto the wall immediately below this ladder via the gap in the wall to the left of the right-most ladder. Having returned to the screen above the bomb, go down the left-most ladder and continue around until you reach a weak wall blocking your path. Use the bomb to blow this up, and go up to collect the yellow pass. Return back to the area with the ladders with the blue and yellow passes, and then continue onto the chapel.

Swap the blue pass for the chicken, and cross the water to the right as you did before, by jumping off the top of the chapel. Continue right until you reach the mine. Go down the ladder and drop the chicken at the bottom. Now go right through the yellow door and continue right until you reach the coal. Collect the coal, and return left to the chicken, which you should swap for the coal. Go left one screen and then down, and finally right so that you reach a yellow door. Go down through this, and then right, so that you enter the screen with the hungry monster. Drop the chicken to appease the monster. Drop the yellow pass here, and go up and then right to reach the screen with the gold bar. You must fall off the bottom of this screen, as the entrance was one-way. As you fall, move right, so that you should land on top of a plant. Collect the purple pass and return to the hungry monster. If you miss the purple pass, simply return around again, via the screen where the gold bar was and try again. In the hungry monster room, leave the purple pass and take the yellow pass and gold bar with you.

Go back to the coal, and swap the yellow pass for the coal, so that you leave the yellow pass in the mine, taking the coal and gold bar away with you. Go up the ladder and head left as far as the top of the well. Leave the coal at the top of the well and fall down the well as far as the first exit on the left. If you miss this, take the second and final exit, which is on the right and leads into the bottom of the mine.

In the pirate's hideout, to the left of the well, give the pirate the gold bar. Jump onto the right-most plant in the pirate's hideout and, from the top of this, keep jumping left to the top of the next plant along until you reach a ledge at the far left with a fish.

Collect this and return to the well. Continue your fall downwards and leave by the bottom exit on the right. Make your way up through the mine using your map to help you, until you leave by the ladder at the top. From here, go left to the screen below the control room, and drop the fish in the control area. You should now have broken three of the six sparks.

Go down the mine again and, collecting the yellow pass on your way, return to the hungry monster. Collect the purple pass you left here and return back to the top of the ladder leading down into the mine. Leave the yellow pass here and go left to the top of the well. Collect the coal so that you're carrying the coal and the purple pass. Cross the water by jumping off the platform above the well and return down into the alien base. Go to the Temple of Vesta, just below the red door where you first entered the base, and drop the coal here to light it.

Pick up the burning coal you have just made, and take it and the purple pass down to the room where you've been leaving all of the passes. Drop the purple pass here and go right to the room where you left the light blue pass. Collect this pass and then go up into the gas store. Go to the far right of the store and drop the coal here to ignite the gases and blow up the store. You should now be able to collect the fish here and, if you need it, a battery to restore your power.

Return to the room containing all of the passes and drop this fish here. Collect the red and purple passes and then go right to the tower immediately to the left of the chapel (NOT the tower at the far right of the game). Go up as far as you can and then jump out to the left. Continue left until you reach a purple door at the entrance to a tunnel and leave the purple pass beside this door. Then continue left and go down through the red door into the Temple of Vesta. Go down to the room with the passes and then make your way right to the base of the area with the ladders where you left the white pass. Collect the white pass and then return up and then left to the room with the white door leading into the workshop. Leave the red pass here and enter the workshop holding the white pass only. Collect the burning blow torch and, at the same time, notice that an ON switch has appeared in the workshop since your last visit.

Now return up and leave the white pass just beside the white door leading into the workshop. Collect the red pass and return to the top of the tower beside the chapel. Once again, jump to the left and go to the purple door. Leave the red pass here and enter the tunnel holding the purple pass and blow torch. Drop the blow torch in the room at the end of the tunnel to burn the top of the plant off, and so lower the top. You can then use the top of the plant to help you to reach the fish!

Leave with the fish and the purple pass. At the end of the tunnel, swap the red pass for the purple one and then return to the Temple of Vesta by going left as far as the red door and then down through the door. Then go down to the room where you have been leaving all of the passes and collect the fish, so that you should be holding the two fish. Go right, out of the alien base, and continue as far as the screen below the alien control room. Go up into the control room and drop the two fish here, to leave only one fish left to be found. The last fish does not actually exist in the game but must be made by you yourself out of ice.

Leave the control room and go left, back into the alien base, collecting the blue pass on your way. Leave the area with the ladders to the right and so go into the water tank area. Go down the left-most ladder into the screen below the entrance, and make your way back to the place where the yellow pass was. This time go down onto the screen below and collect the empty fish shape. Take this to the room where you have left all of the passes, below the Temple of Vesta. Swap the blue pass for the cyan pass and then go to the tower at the very far right of the game.

Here drop the empty fish shell by the pond to fill it with water. If you need to, you can jump up from platform to platfrom upwards above the pond to reach a battery to boost your power. Now return to the room where the passes are with the cyan pass and the filled fish shell. Swap the cyan pass for the blue pass and then go up into the Temple of Vesta. Then go to the right of the Temple, through the blue door, into the fridge. Drop the fish shell here to freeze the water and make an ice fish.

Congratulations: You have you collected your last fish!

If you remember, however, there is still the problem that there is nothing behind the sparks. The solution is that the control room and the teleport both run off electricity from the generator, which you have turned off. Therefore, go to the workshop and at the white door, swap the frozen fish for the white pass. You should enter holding only the white pass. Collect the on switch in the workshop and then leave and go to the room where you have left the passes. Swap the white pass for the green one here and then go left by the upper exit. From the electricity meter, go down the left ladder and round to the electric cut-off. Turn the electricity back on again here.

Then return to the white door in front of the workshop and collect the frozen fish. Take this fish right to the control room and, in doing so, break the sixth and final spark. You should find that a key has appeared behind where the sparks were. Collect this key and then go left from the control room and fall down the well.

Take the first exit on the left into the pirate's hideout and then go down into the teleport. Continue down to the bottom of the teleport and drop the key.

The game is now complete!
