Pokemon Yellow

Pikachu: cute cuddly toy or dangerous stalker?

They seek it here, they seek it there - open your eyes people! Pokemon are everywhere. You can walk down the street and step on a packet of Pokemon wignuts while on the way to see the Pokemon movie. In playgrounds around the country kids are giving each other dead arms to get Pokemon cards, Pokemon books, Pokemon clothes and even Pokemon water-based tattoos. Pokemon, Pokemon, Pokemon, Pokemon. Why? 'Cos we've gotta catch 'em all... and heaven knows, we've had a fair chance.

At least, that's what you thought, because here comes Pokemon Yellow, the must-have and definitely more addictive than chocolate-coated Pringles update to the original Red and Blue.

Everything is back again for a second black of Thundershock attacks and super effective tail whips. It's the same as it ever was - in fact, it's identical but for a couple of minor changes. This time there is a hint of colour and you're accompanied by the ever cute, yet harder than a gold-plated Godzilla, Pikachu! He/she/it is your own personal Tamagotchi, following you around, desperate for your love and attention. Better keep him happy because this is one street fighting cuddly toy you don't want to anger.

Pokemon Yellow is nothing short of a master class in cool obsession. Once you pop your first creature and suck 'em into a Pokeball, the game has got your mind, body and soul and there is nothing you can do about it but play till your thumbs go numb and your eyes feel like they've been transplanted from an ancient stuffed bear. Hey, you already want it more than your next breath of fresh air... so get it and get it get you. Pikachu we choose you, Thundershock attaaack!

Second Opinion

If this was any more addictive, it would come with a government health warning. Owners of Blue and Red may think twice before buying what is essentially the same game though.

Pokemon newcomers will find the addition of Pikachu a bonus.
