The coin-op version of OutRun had on incredibly simple formula. Take a beautiful sports car, add in varied scenery and amazing graphics, and round off the effect with a hydraulic cabinet. It was an instant success with home conversions appearing on just about every console and computer. This Megadrive version captures the graphics and sound of the original quite well, but something is severely lacking on the gameplay front.
First of all, the car doesn't control anywhere near as well as the coin-op, making for some very frustrating crashes. Secondly, even though you do tend to crash too much, the game is incredibly simple to complete.
Experienced gamers are bound to finish it in one go and even novices will finish it within one session. With a bit of control tweaking and a sterner challenge, this could nave been something special.
