Lego Stunt Rally
Who'd have thought that playing with Lego would successfully cross over to the videogame market? However, one of the good things about Lego on the Game Boy is that the brick you are looking for can be found with a quick press of a button - it certainly beats searching in a giant box for hours on end! Or maybe that's the whole point?
No Sticklebricks!
Stunt Rally is primarily about racing to become the Lego supreme Stunt Race champion, but it is also a rather fun track-building game too. You race against other Lego characters across loads of environments, and upon winning each race more options open to up you in the course construction area so that you are able to build bigger and better tracks! They include trickier bends, more obstacles and plenty of jumps for you to tackle. You can then go on to race on your newly created track on the Single Race mode!
Danish Daring
The racing itself is a rather odd affair, as you hardly use the D-pad at all! The car turns the corners by itself, and all you do is simply control the speed of your chosen vehicle as you tear around the track. If you go too fast on a corner or too slow over an obstacle then you will spin out and risk the cars behind you overtaking... and nobody wants that to happen!
Along the way there are various power-ups and weapons that can help or hinder your progress, which are activated by pressing Up on the control pad. It's fun, simple and once mastered (sadly) not all that challenging but, happily, the construction area should give you plenty more hours of gaming enjoyment!
Second Opinion
With such long-lasting and exciting titles like this on the shelves, it looks like Lego games are fast becoming the coolest new Game Boy titles that you can buy!
When there have been so many samey racing games in recent months, it's really nice to get your hands on something that is more than just your usual 'Press-B-and-slow-down-a-bit-on-corners' fare.
Fair play to the Danes, I say. Top dog!
