It's time to take to the dirt track - hold on tight!

Jeremy McGrath Supercross

With Jeremy McGrath licensing his name out to every games platform going, it comes as no surprise to see him popping up on the Game Boy Color. It might not have the punch of the N64 or even the Dreamcast, but our favourite handheld can certainly throw out a tidy little game!

Going from the top, this game is certainly not short of options. There's an Arcade mode for those who just fancy a quick spin and the chance to show-off to the ladies, as well as a Season mode for those who preer to take their biking a little more seriously. In each mode there's an impressive amount of options and courses to race around too, so you're going to be kept busy for a little while at least.

Season mode has three Championship levels to race at - 80cc for beginners, 125cc for intermediates and 250cc for those who think they're hard enough - with three seasons to get through in each. The catch? Well, you've got to unlock them by finishing first in each of the preceding seasons. Don't worry though, 'cos it's not too hard (well, not in 80cc); it just takes a bit of skill here and there, as well as the odd dare-devil overtaking manoeuvre.

Jeremy McGrath Supercross 2000

Within every season you must compete in four races set over various landscapes, each of which hold their own challenges. The aim is (obviously) to finish as high as possible so that you can top the leaderboard and thus get clearance for the next season.

Before you can embark on your chosen race, you must choose which of the six bikers you want to ride along with. However, even though each rider has different attributes (speed, acceleration) they're hardly noticeable as you're whizzing around the courses like a bat out of hell. Not that it matters much - as soon as you've straddled a bike and started racing everything else is blown away in the wind because, quite simply, this is great fun to play.

With five other riders on the track you're going to have to assert your dominance with a little bit of shoulder-barging before pulling hard on the accelerator and vanishing off into the distance, leaving nothing but dust and petrol fumes. The control is easy to pick up, so it shouldn't take long before you're being crowned king of the Supercross and spraying the champagne around.

Jeremy McGrath Supercross 2000

Jeremy McGrath Supercross might not be the best-sounding or even best-looking Game Boy Color racing game out there, but there's no denying that there's a fair amount of fun to be had bombing around on motorbikes, and the fact that they're only tiny shouldn't matter a jot.

Second Opinion

What can I say but fantastic! Simple it may be, but this is a bloomin' marvelous game which harks back to the days of the Spectrum 48K and the Codemasters series of 'Simulator' titles (which were incredibly good fun).

If you've got a Game Boy Color and fancy a fun-filled trip down memory lane then take this one for a spin!
