There's a kind of permanent pleasure about playing Galaxians which seems to outlast the changes in games fashions. It satisfies a deep need to enjoy a good long bout of destruction.
The game features ten different attack waves of aliens, all clearly distinguishable because of the very good colourful graphics. Each wave appears from the centre of the screen in a starburst of colour. They then peel off in all directions before swooping down to bother your ship at the bottom of the screen.
I particularly liked wave 9, the Zoomerangs, who whirl around emitting
shrill bird-like noises. Another nice point is the upward scroll between waves so you zoom through space before meeting your next opponents.
Hyperblast! should greatly satisfy most Gataxians fans.
