What's worse than having no back story to a game? I would have to argue that it's having a preposterous backstory, of which Higgy 2 is a culprit in doing so.

In a nutshell, the player must find their missing cat and collect sausages. The rest of the tale is irrelevant.

What we have here, though, is a reasonable flick screen platform game which doesn't do anything particularly interesting or different amongst its peers in this genre. The level designs aren't the worst I've played and some of the screens prove to be quite a challenge. The difficulty is magnified by the fact that the collision detection against the platforms is brutal and it requires you to be exact with every leap. There simply is no margin for error.

However, there are things to admire in this platformer. Firstly, it has a pre '85 feel to the aesthetics and rather than using modern trickery to get glorious arrays of colours, this just adheres to the rules of yesteryear and gives us bold and beautiful sprites in the limited colour palette.

As the game isn't overly massive, I found myself compelled to find out which screen comes next; it fueled my wanderlust like any decent platforming game should do. I still don't see the benefit of collecting the sausages though? Are they integral to rescuing the cat? The instructions don't make this clear. I'd like to think that you can't rescue the cat until you have all the bangers.

In the end, frustration at the collision detection proves to be the killer and the urge to win the game is somewhat quelled.

Overall, fun for a short burst but there is much better out there.
