For those that don't know, Euchre is a card game for 4 players (2v2), that is somewhat similar to Whist. I certainly didn't know that. Having never even heard of Euchre prior to playing this NES version, I made a quick trip to Youtube to find out how it is played. There is a tutorial on the game menu, but since it's just page after page of text I opted to find out how to play via other means.
I suppose that's this games first failing really - you have to know the game on which it is based to be able to play it.
Graphically, the game is reminiscent of all those old windows-based card games that most people's PCs were full of in the 90's. Functional but bland probably best describes it. There are also a couple of music tracks that despite being a constant loop somehow don't become monotonous. You move a cursor to decide which cards to play, and once one team wins 10 points the game goes back to the menu.
As with a lot of card games, your enjoyment will largely stem from how much you enjoy playing cards. Personally I enjoy card games, and once I got my head around the rules I ended up quite enjoying Euchre.
The only real issue is the fact that playing cards is a social event best played with other people, and the nature of these electronic versions is they only offer single player. However, if you just want to learn how to play, or to practise your strategies, it gets the job done.
