Honest Run With The Wide Boys

Dodgy Geezers is a text-only adventure game with a sense of humour. It was written by Trevor Lever and Peter Jones who produced Hampstead and Terrormolinos. If you've played either of these, some of the characters in Dodgy Geezers will be all too familiar, but you don't need to have played them to be able to complete the new game.

You play the role of a con jailed for supposedly taking part in the Long Ditton Spaghetti Caper. The truth of the matter is that you were framed. On being released you decide to try to keep to the straight and narrow. Some hope; soon all your old associates start hanging around and persuade you to organise a bank robbery. You have to decide which three of the unsavoury characters you meet will make the best gang to pull it off. Each of the characters has his own particular skills and drawbacks, you find.

The game was developed on The Quill adventure writing system, and input is in the form of verb-noun. Several commands may be placed on a line by separating them with the word AND as in GET MATCHES AND GO NORTH. Dodgy Geezers is loaded in two parts. In the first part you have to assemble the gang and in the second carry out the robbery. On the reverse of the cassette is a piece of music in the style of Chas and Dave which contains clues to the game.

It is refreshing to play an adventure with a novel theme to it and one that is not too difficult and yet not too easy. The replies to some actions can be very amusing and I found the game to be very enjoyable and well worth playing.
