If you have visited an arcade recently, you will have noticed that racing games are very popular at the moment. One game I enjoy playing is Hang On which gives a convincing feeling of riding on a winding track. It is great to see the Electron reproducing a similar effect. Riding and dodging bikes on a straight road would become quite boring after only a short length of time (Just look at Overdrive, for example!).
The object of the game is to win each race, or at least come in one of the first six positions. Against you are 59 other riders, all of whom ride steadily but not at top speed. To win a race you must ride at breakneck speed and either dodge or dislodge your opponents. You get a reward for every rider you knock down but be warned they can crash into you and slow you down considerably.
If you veer too near to the edge of the track you will also slow down. The game is really exciting when you are just nearing the finish line and you need to overtake a few more bikes to qualify for the next race meet.
The game features seven well known race tracks including our own Brands Hatch and Silverstone. The loading screen is quite funny and overall the game is a polished product with all the usual attention to detail that is thankfully becoming common in Electron games.
The graphics work well in reproducing the effects of riding fast on a winding track. The other bikes zoom out of nowhere and demand fast reflexes to be avoided. If you like playing racing games then this one is well worth the asking price.
