As a serious machine code programmer, I usually pull out a fair amount of hair from my head whilst trying to develop a machine code program. But, when I got hold of the Colour Genie Monitor, out came the superglue and back went the hair! The Colour Genie Monitor is the best - and only - program you need in order to develop and test machine code programs with the exception of an assembler. But an assembler is something else altogether.
There are thirty commands available. They are so varied that I shall give a brief idea of what you can do. You can display and modify memory in both ASCII and HEX, single step and preserve the screen in both RAM and ROM, disassemble memory to both the screen and printer, search memory, fill
memory, copy memory, relocate memory, compare memory, display and modify registers, arithmetic, screen dump, write, read and view System tapes, etc...
And it is so easy to use. The instruction manual is very complete. However, you must have a working knowledge of machine code in order for this program to be of any use to you. But, if you were planning on learning machine code programming, then you must have this program.
This program is so powerful that you can single-step through the initialisation of the system. And for every instruction that you single step, you can get a display of the contents of all the registers as well as a disassembly of that instruction. And you can have all that information
printed at the same time!! What more can I say?
The Colour Genie Monitor is available from your own software house, Gumboot Software.
