Memory Magic is a version of Kim's
Game. This is hardly a novel
idea, although it needs a computer with Archimedes-quality
graphics to get a good implementation.
Also, with a micro you get a few extra features plus a high score
table - and you do not have to scrabble around the house looking
for bits and pieces.
After loading the program you are prompted for your name and
can then select from a number of options. The idea of this old
American Indian game is that you are shown a number of objects for
a couple of minutes after which you go away and remember what
you saw.
On level one you are offered four items, which can be displayed
together or shown in sequence.
You must then type a description of the pictures. To help you, a list of
possible objects is included. This is essential since the program is totally inflexible about spelling which can lead to problems - since players who press the spacebar at the end of a word will be told that they
got it wrong even if they didn't.
Only 100 per cent success will qualify players for level two, which
involves memorising 10 objects, while level three displays 20 different pictures selected from the full range of 60 full colour sprites.
There are six levels, but I've not yet completed level three. The program's author says level two is his limit!
A score is given for each correct answer and if you remember
enough your name will go on the high score table and be saved permanently
on disc.
This is a simple game that will probably not amuse one person for
too long. It could provide some party fun but it lacks that quality
which gets people hooked.
