READY STEADY GO from Alternative Software Ready Steady Go is a new and original Sports Simulation for 1 or 2 players. The events in which you compete are Track Hurdling, Canoeing, Cycling (3D) and Penalty Saving. After selecting 1 or 2 players you then enter your name using left/right cursor and space to select a letter. At the start of each event you are given a set choice of keys or joysticks. Press the required number then space to select. Once you have successfully completed all events you restart on the next level. You are given three lives and when you fail an event, you lose a life and must repeat the event. You can change your choice of keys once you qualify. TRACK HURDLING Your objective is to complete 5 laps before the qualifying time. In this event there are always two players competing at once. The computer player stands in if necessary. If in a two player game for example, player one qualified but player two failed, player two would have to run again against a computer player one. Track details:- The non-standard track is long with many bends and 3 hurdles. Players run a predetermined path of equal paces. You cannot jump when approaching a bend. KEYS LEFT/RIGHT (Alternating) Gain Speed FIRE (Keyboard) Jump UP&FIRE (Joystick) Jump CANOEING Your objective is to row 4 lengths of the river within the qualifying time and remain afloat afterwards. The river course is spread over 2 'flip screens' which partially overlay each other. In the river there are two types of rock, shaded rock and black rock of varying sizes which appear as the level progresses. Hitting a rock or the river bank causes damage to the boat. As in any river there is a current. This increases in strength up to level 8 and flows westward, however at level 3 it may deviate to flow NORTHWEST or SOUTHWEST making it harder to avoid the obstacles. When you begin you are positioned the wrong way round, so first face the right way. To turn or swerve you must already be moving, however slowly but from your own speed and not the pull of the current. KEYS/JOYSTICK LEFT (release) LEFT (release) Turn Left LEFT (held down) Shift Left LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT Gather Speed RIGHT (held down) Shift Right RIGHT (release) RIGHT (release) Turn Right To turn around gather speed by pressing LEFT then RIGHT two or three times and then quickly carry out operation 1 or 5. At each end of the river are two sensors. Crossing one indicates that the end of the river has been rowed past. A black border means that the sensors in that half of the river is the next end to be rowed past, a white border means the sensors in that half have been rowed past. Now row to the other end. Note that on completing an end of the river the clock temporarily displays the number of ends completed. In 1 player mode player 1 rows alone, if he fails to qualify he must row again. In 2 player mode player 1 rows alone first, if he fails he must row again. Player 2 rows once player 1 has qualified. 3D TRACK CYCLING You must complete 12 laps before the qualifying time, two players compete at the same time. This is a standard track shown in 3D. There are 3 lanes which the cyclist can ride into at will, the shortest lane is on the inside. The faster a computer opponent cycles the more likely it is to skid at a bend. Running into the back of an opponent causes them to shoot ahead and you to slow down. You cannot change lanes if the position is occupied. KEYS/JOYSTICK LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT Gain speed LEFT (held) Move to an inner lane RIGHT (held) Move to an outer lane 1 and 2 player mode as track hurdling, when on 2 player mode do not use the same key number, i.e. using half row QWERT for player 1 and YUIOP for player 2 will affect the speed of both players. 3D PENALTY SAVING You must save a required number of penalty shots to qualify. You are in goal and have to face 10 penalty shots. If the striker scores the border will change from black to white. You can stop the ball as it crosses the line in which case a goal is given. The outside of the goal is a black arrow. This indicates the direction the goalie would dive should you press the fire key. Moving the left and right keys will reveal that there are 7 directions in which the goalie can dive. There are 2 different speeds at which you can dive, normal or fast. Press the appropriate keys and the goalie will dive in a smooth arc in the direction of the arrow. Falling back to the ground is a lot faster and direct so that saving the ball on your way down is a bonus. You can dive before the ball is kicked and you can only dive once.
