MANIC DESIGNER 2 ---------------- By Mark Whatling and Peter Webb Blood here again! :-) Here's a MUCH better Manic Miner editor than the Rich Swann version (which I put onto the Internet last year). This one is co-written by Peter Webb who contacted me and provided the editor. All I did was to transfer them over to the emulator so don't thank me, thank him! :-) This editor allows you to move conveyor belts properly, put keys ANYWHERE, alter the position of the room exits, and alter the paths and positions of the bad guys (and add more of them if the mood takes you), as well as LOADS of other things. It's a VERY nice prog all-round..... There aren't any instructions to speak of, so here's a quick summary of the editing suite : ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 0. THE EDITOR The editor comes as two snapshots. The first is a screen designer which allows you to alter the levels, the second is a graphics editor which will allow you to alter any of the graphics. You'll need an emulator that loads and saves TAP files if you want to use both together, but if you just want to alter the levels a bit or turn Willy into a banana then you should be okay with anything. Both snaps come pre-loaded with standard Manic Miner data. 1. THE SCREEN DESIGNER The more complicated of the two! You'll have to experiment to find out how to use it to the full, but here's a key summary to get you started : CURSOR KEYS Moves the cursor around the screen. G - GET Stores whatever is under the cursor. You can now place copies of it wherever you like. P - PUT Places whatever is stored at the current cursor position. You'll use this more than anything else! N - NEXT ROOM Move on to the next cavern. B - PREVIOUS ROOM Move back to the previous cavern. Y - SCREEN NAME Set the current screen name. O - BORDER Set the border colour for the current screen. W - WILLY START Set Willy's start position for the current room. E - EXIT POSITION Set the exit position for the current room. T - SET KEYS Set the positions of all the keys in the current room. I - SET CONVEYOR Set the position of the current room's conveyor belt. R - SET ROBOTS Set the number of nasties in the current room and their positions, colours, movement speed, etc. Z - DISPLAY GROUND TYPES Pops up a little strip of all the available ground types for the current room. Handy if you want to use a type which isn't visible on the screen (so you can't GET a copy). C - SEE ALL Shows the keys, exit and Willy's start position until you press a key. K - SAVE Save Manic Miner data to tape. L - LOAD Load Manic Miner data from tape. ^ - PLAY GAME Press SYMBOL-SHIFT and H to play Manic Miner. Watch out though - there's no going back to the editor once you've started the game! 2. THE GRAPHICS EDITOR This is a simple graphics editor which allows you to change most of the graphics from the game. All of the keys are displayed on-screen, so I won't bother describing them here. Needless to say it's pretty straight-forward! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- And that's it! Many thanks to Peter Webb for providing this to the Internet community and I expect to see some re-designed Manic Miner games very soon! Cheerio!
