Dragon Trek =========== Introduction And Play --------------------- As Captain of the Starship Enterprise, you will be assigned a five year mission to seek and destroy enemy vessels throughout the galaxy. Starbases will be available for refuelling and repairs to your ship, and an impressive range of weapons and on board technology allow you to track down the Klingons. The DRAGON TREK galaxy is comprised of 64 quadrants containing planets, Klingons and starbases. Your TV screen becomes the bridge of your starship and is divided into five main areas: 1. Short Range Scan The top left hand quarter of the screen holds the short range view of your current quadrant, displaying the current position of the Enterprise and any bases, planets and Klingons in the quadrant. 2. Status Report Displays the current condition of your vessel and your mission progress. Keep your eye on the energy level and the shields. 3. Command Input Area Here the computer asks for your next move prompting: COMMAND? You must select the number of one of the 9 command options listed in area 4 of the screen. 4. Command Options 1) Helm To move your starship around the galaxy, select command option 1 then input the desired WARP FACTOR (i.e. how many grid positions on the 8x8 grid of the Short Range scan screen do you wish to move. A warp factor greater than 8 will take you into another quadrant!) Next enter your heading (i.e. direction of movement) from 1-8 - the star-shaped number table that appears in the Further Info area will help you choose a heading. When you select Helm, the LR (Long Range) scan is displayed in the Further Info area. This shows the contents of your current quadrant (in red) and the surrounding five quads in a table of three figure numbers which should be read in the following manner: Klingons, Bases, Planets HUNDREDS : TENS : UNITS So the number 305 should be read as 3 Klingons, 0 Bases and 5 Planets. 2) Shields To transfer energy to and from the starship's shields. 3) Torpedoes Input how many photon torpedoes you wish to fire, followed by the XY grid co-ordinates of each target. 4) Phasers A pure energy weapon that will fire automatically on all Klingons in the quadrant, but effectiveness dissipates with distance. 5) Computer Gives you extra strategic abilities. 6) Probe See how many torpedoes and how much energy each Klingon has left. 7) Destruct Do not let your vessel fall into enemy hands. 8) Damages Taken a blow? Find out what systems are damaged. 9) Load Torpedoes Each torpedo represents 250 energy units and can either be loaded from energy (2) or unloaded back into energy (1). 5. Further Information Area Displays extra info such as Long Range Scan, probes, damages and computer options. About Time ---------- Each mission lasts five full years, so you know when the status area shows 0 years to go you have very little time before you are recalled to Star Fleet. Time passes with each Command Cycle, and any repairs that need doing are done slowly. NB. Repairs to the starship use up energy automatically. Lag Time -------- DRAGON TREK is an interactive game. That means if you don't make a move within a reasonable time, the computer will (and the Klingons may) attack. Lag time sets your "thinking period" between moves. A lag of 5 is the longest (nearly 30 seconds) and 1 is the shortest. A lag of zero switches the interaction off altogether, and the Dragon will not move until you have. Loading ------- CLOAD (ENTER) RUN (ENTER) Trouble Shooting ---------------- If you wish to start the game without loading the Dragon Trek loading screen, or if your cassette player does not have remote control, start the game by typing: GOTO 3870 (ENTER) If the game should stop for any reason during play, type: SCREEN 1,1:GOTO 1400 (ENTER)
