Spellbound Besieged: Spelling ============================= Spellbound Besieged: Spelling ----------------------------- There are four packages in the Spellbound series: Besieged, Towering Inferno, Golden Apple and Bailiff. They pull together every quirk of English spelling you'll ever need to know - and keep you spellbound, time after time. The Aim: Get right, once and for all, these impossible words: from asthma to ancillary, from miscellaneous to misspell. The Game: Can you get your crusading knight across the ravine to relieve the beleaguered city - or will the infidels get there first? Every word spelt right is a safe crossing for one of your knights. Spell a word wrong and the infidels will have an advantage over you. Instructions ------------ You are given a definition of the word you have to spell. Key in the word, and if you spell it correctly, the letters will build a bridge across the ravine. This allows a knight to enter the city to help the defendants. When you have spelt six words in a row right, and six knights have crossed over the bridge consecutively, the city is saved. If you key in a wrong letter, it won't build up the bridge. Instead, it will fall into the ravine to make a step for the besiegers to climb up by. You are allowed to make two mistakes. A third mistake means that there are enough steps for the infidels to enter and capture the city. At Level 1, a block of the letters making up the word, plus some extra one, are shown jumbled up on the screen to give you an extra clue. If you want a more difficult game, Level 2 gives you the definitions without the scrambled letter on the screen. You can change the level at the end of a game. There are 210 difficult words to spell on cassette 1, and another 210 tough words on cassette 2. Scoring ------- Each time a knight crosses into the city, you score 3 points. Each time you make a mistake, you lose a point. Each time you save the city, you get five extra points at Level 1, or 10 extra points at Level 2.
