Eagle ===== Eagle ----- A career awaits *you* in *intergalactic geology*!! Here's *your* opportunity to meet new and different alien things, explore, dig up, and analyse brave new worlds, to boldly survey where none have surveyed before. You too can make truckloads of money and, the mortality rate is *under 90%*! It's a man's life in Intergalactic Geology! Eagle is a new and different arcade game for the BBC Model B or expanded Model A. Features include pods, volcanoes, lasers, tunnels, asteroids and magnetic anomalies as you delve deeper and deeper into the Moons of Thrug. Instructions ------------ Congratulations!! You are now a member of the elite corps known as the Intergalactic Geologists. The moons of the planet Thrug have been reported to contain large amounts of rare trace elements, but the treacherous asteroid belts and lethal underground passages have made it impossible to send a remote probe to survey. You must pilot an Eagle Automatic Survey Ship through the moons. A unique feature of this craft is the ability to convert iridium into a limited additional energy source. Soft Landings - you'll need 'em. Playing The Game ---------------- The object of the game is to guide your "eagle" spacecraft through the caves and tunnels of the four Moons of Thrug, conserving energy, collecting iridium pods, and avoiding hazards. Each moon is represented by five different screens, each of which has its own hazards: orbiting asteroid belts, narrow tunnels, laser beams, magnetic anomaly fields with mines and active volcanoes. Each screen also contains four iridium pods which can be collected. You must pilot your craft from the top of each screen down to the gap in the bottom of the screen. You must land at the bottom gently, or you will lose shield energy. Flying The Eagle ---------------- Use the Z, X and RETURN keys as above to fly your "Eagle" craft. Left to its own devices, your ship will plummet downwards due to the force of gravity, but applying thrust will push the craft upward. The thrust can be used at the same time as either the left or right control. Hazards And Shields ------------------- You will find a number of hazards both above and below the Moons of Thrug. If you hit any of these, your shields will automatically activate to ward off the danger, but this uses a great deal of energy. If your shield energy reaches zero, you will be destroyed. You only have one life. You can activate your shields manually at any time by pressing the SHIFT key. This will cause a steady drain on your shield energy, but will make you invulnerable to all hazards. Pods ---- On each screen, you will find four iridium pods which you can pick up by passing over them. Each pod replenishes a small amount of your shield energy and scores you bonus points. Game Controls ------------- Z - Left, X - Right, RETURN - Apply Thrust, SHIFT - Activate Shields COPY/DELETE - Pause/Restart Scoring ------- Note that you can only score points upon the successful completion of each screen. Each screen completed ... 100 points Each remaining unit of shield energy ... 1 points First pod collected on a screen .. 500 points Second pod ... 500 points Third pod ... 1,000 points Fourth pod ... 2,000 points Loading ------- Tape: CHAIN"" (RETURN) Disc: SHIFT-BREAK
