Battle Of Britain ================= The Game -------- Because of the computer's limited memory, anyone writing a flight simulator for the Beeb is forced to make some difficult choices. Some have concentrated on sophisticated navigation aids, while providing only a rudimentary cockpit display; others have included a detailed instrument panel, but few navigational aids. Some have opted for "wire frame" graphics in limited colours, to minimise the amount of memory required for the screen display. Most have written commercial aircraft simulators, neatly avoiding the complex programming problems of inverted flight and aerobatics in fighter aircraft simulations have, up to now, not provided convincing opponents for the would-be fighter ace to take on. Recognising these shortcomings, we have tried to give you the following things in this game: * A convincing full colour screen display, rather than wire-frame outlines - despite the resulting reduction in memory space * All the basic instrumentation required for flying, presented in a simple, easy-to-read form * Full aerobatic capability, with the instruments and horizon adding to the illusion of real flight * Varied and realistic targets for you to shoot at (be careful, some of them shoot back!) * Convincing sound and "3D" graphics effects * Sufficient navigational aids to allow you to find the enemy, and your way home, in the days before navigatinal radar had been developed * A flavour of the World War II period, with authentic aircarft, locations and jargon In addition, you have the flexibility to select one aspect of the game, and just play that part of it if you wish - be it combat, interception, approaches/landings or aerobatics. Copyright --------- We have made no attempt to hide the workings of the program from you. You are free to "LIST" it and examine it. If you manage to work out what is going on in there, perhaps you will be good enough to write and explain it all to us! But we would remind you that the contents are subject to copyright, and that making illegal copies is the surest way to underline the livelihood of software writers and remove their incentive to produce new programs for your enjoyment. Fly With The Few ---------------- "The gratitude of every home in our island, in our Empire, and indeed throughout the World, except in the abodes of the guilty, goes out to the British airmen, who, undaunted by odds, unwearied in their constant challenge and mortal danger, are turning the tide of world war by their prowess and by their devotion. Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few." : Winston Churchill 20.8.1940 This game is respectfully dedicated to their memory. Loading ------- CHAIN"" (RETURN)
