The Complete BBC ================ The Genesis Project ------------------- The year 2143 AD. The Star Federation has managed to maintain an extremely fragile ceasefire between the planets with the six zones of the Gamma-Serti System where war has raged for the past seven solar years. Now that ceasefire has been threatened. The rare mineral Trilithium has been discovered on an uninhabited asteroid on the edge of The Altare Zone. The planet Targon-3 has claimed the asteroid for itself and to reinforce its claim has constructed six Cobolithium Detonation Devices in each of the zones within the Gamma-Serti System. Targon-3 has threatened to detonate these bombs if any planet attempts to set up a mining colony on the planet. The Star Federation now has the responsibility to render these devices inactive and allocate mining rights to the Trilithium fairly between all zones within Gamma-Serti. You have been given command of The Federation's most advanced Star Cruiser, The Genesis Probe. Your mission, to travel through all zones within Gamma-Serti and neutralise the Cobolithium Devices. The Genesis Project Mission Data -------------------------------- Your ship is armed with twin Q-Class Phasers. However, the Cobolithium Devices are shielded by a high density ion screen. Although your phasers are the most powerful yet developed, your energy banks will be drained before the screen is penetrated. Your ship is therefore equipped with a reprocessing plant which can extract dilithium from any space debris. This can be achieved by blasting an asteroid with your phasers and collecting the debris with your tractor beam which is automatically initiated upon a successful hit. Your ship's computer will at any time display your current status and position within the Gamma-Serti System. The data shown is as follows: Detonation Time left before bomb explodes Ships Number of Targon-3 ships destroyed Asteroids Number of asteroids in current zone Destruct Percentage of bomb shields destroyed Rating Your performance to date The Genesis Project Game Controls --------------------------------- Z - Left, X - Right, : - Up, ? - Down ] - Activate Phaser Sights, RETURN - Fire Phasers, SHIFT - Increase Velocity ESCAPE - Intergalactic Map + Status, f0 - Hyperspace Flip ---- Flip is a two player graphical word strategy game involving matching cartoons and music played on screen to gradually reveal hidden words. Flip has a vocabulary of 128 words ranging in difficulty, or user words and anagrams can be entered. A really challenging new realm in computer entertainment... a truly unique conception... Play it... Enjoy it... Flip it! Playing Flip ------------ 1. Players take it in turn to move the arrow around and reveal any two squares of their choice. 2. The players' names are displayed at the bottom of the screen. Yellow text indicates that it is that player's move. 3. The idea is to remember which cartoon is where, and to match identical pairs of cartoons. 4. Cartoons must match in colour, animation and tune. 5. A 'Wild Card' will match with anything. 6. When a pair has been correctly matched, then part of the word, which is hidden behind the grid, will be revealed. The player who matched the pair correctly may, if he wishes, make a guess at the word. He has ten seconds to type his guess. 7. If the 'Scrambled Words' option was selected, then the word revealed on the grid will be an anagram of the actual word. 8. Guessing the word correctly ends the game. 9. If no-one has guessed the word when as many squares as possible have been revealed, then the game ends anyway. Until suddenly the peace is broken... Mutant worms have invaded the tranquility and are out to get you. As they chase you, they lay eggs which, unless you eat them first, will hatch into more worms. The only chance you have is to frantically speed around the garden, in and out the swinging gates and outwit the pursuing worms. Chrysalis Scoring ----------------- Cabbages ... 10 pts Red eggs laid by worms ... 100 pts Green/blue eggs ... 100 pts Skulls ... Lethal If the green/blue eggs are eaten when blue, they are displayed at the bottom of the screen. Collect nine and you get an extra life. If "M"s are eaten when red, the multiplier at the bottom of the screen is increased and your score is increased by this number. If egg in centre of the screen is eaten, the swinging gates lock and four flies are released but as a bonus your multiplier is increased. Chrysalis Game Controls ----------------------- Z - Left, X - Right, : - Up, / - Down S/Q - Sound/Quiet Drain Mania ----------- Drain Mania is a game where a love of sewers is an advantage! You play the part of Theodore, an athletic young chap who wanders the various tunnels of the system in search of a way out. Plummering from the drainage pipes at the top of the screen to the collection pipes at the bottom slide various sewer beasts named Inky, Pinky and Dinky. During their dangerous descent you must either avoid or kill them. They will fall if your first dislodge their feet by head-butting them from below the floor and then kicking them out of your way. Any encounter with an upright beast will result in a very unpleasant death. Each creature has a different strength - Dinky, for example, requires three head-butts before it topples over. Head-butting the Zap block causes everything on the screen to topple. This, however, may only be used three times. Now and again water or fireballs are ejected from the pipes; these must be avoided. Coins discarded from the streets above hang from the floors to make your journey worthwhile. Occasionally, you must come across a tunnel full of coins; collect these before the beasts catch up with you. Theodore can move left, right or jump to a new floor. Some corridors are more slippery than others, so make sure you tread carefully! Theodore may also become invisible for a short time on each screen. Bonus life and ZAP blocks at 10,000 and 30,000 points. Finally, if you fail to kick a beast before it flips back onto its feet, the creature becomes even more ferocious! No-one has yet escaped from the tunnels of Drain Mania. Will you be the first? Galactic Intelligence have succeeded in locating their spacecraft, disguised as a meteorite, and have managed to find out their plans. Their power generator is trained on the Earth ready to wipe out civilisation, but it can be approached only by penetrating the ten levels of the ship, which are heavily guarded by Bugeyes and devious booby traps. This power generator must be destroyed before the ship gets within range of the Earth. On the sporting agenda, we have seven events, each one a true test of your athletic and sporting prowess. So get your trainers on and get down to the arena! Playing International Megasports -------------------------------- The first thing to do is to enter the number of contestants - up to four can play. Just press one of the number keys 1-4. Then you can enter the initials of each player by using the Z and C keys to move the cursor over the letters of the racetrack menu. Fix the letters with the S key. The first event will now load. The Events ---------- Each player is given three attempts at each event, with points awarded for performance which go towards the competition total score that determines the overall winner. There is an option to repeat each event, but this is for practice only - points are only scored the first time round. For each event there is a qualifying time or score. In order for you to score points towards your total, you must equal or better the qualifying time or score in at least one of your three attempts. As each player plays he will be given the score or time for this three attempts. If a player fails to qualify in any of his three attempts, he will be out of the competition and cannot take part in the following events except for practice. If all the players fail to qualify, they are given the option of going back to start a new competition or carrying on for practice only. 100 Metres: Hit the Z and C keys continuously to build up your speed. Go for the quickest time. Skeet Shooting: The automatic sights follow the skeets and you must fire as the skeets pass through the sights. Z fires to the left sight and C to the right. Long Horse: Press S to get the best jump off the springboard and press S again to push off the pommel horse. Then hit Z and C to do as many rolls in the air as you can before landing. Archery: Set the wind speed and direction using the Z or C keys. Fire with the S key. The timing of the shot controls the arrow's accuracy in the horizontal plane, and in the vertical plane holding down the S key after firing will raise the trajectory. If you manage to hit the target, the display at the top right shows you where the arrow landed. Hurdles: Like the 100 Metres, use Z and C to build up speed, but also use S to jump over the hurdles. High Jump: Press S to jump, then once in the air, pressing S will move the man to the right. Precision is needed in order to clear the bar. Long Jump: Press S to jump as the man approaches the pit. Try not to jump past the line. Once in the air use Z and C to give him height and length. If you manage to get through all seven events, you can have another game - but this time it'll be much tougher to qualify! For another game, please rewind the tape back to the beginning of the side; do not turn the tape over (as it says on the screen)!
