I.Q. Test ========= About I.Q. Tests ---------------- The measurement of intelligence is one of the most controversial subjects in psychology in recent years. The Intelligent Quotient (I.Q.) is given by the formula: ( Mental Age / Chronological Age ) * 100 and hence the average I.Q. is therefore 100 where the mental age is equivalent to the chronological age of the subject. I.Q. tests have been used for a long time as a reliable source for decisions about prospective employees, ability grading in schools, etc. The aim of the I.Q. test is not to decide whether the person is intelligent by how many books he has read or whether he can pass an 'A' level Maths exam, for instance, rather than whether or not he has the ability to learn these skills. It is difficult to measure I.Q. accurately (probably impossible) as many factors are involved in a subject's performance in a test - it is not just a matter of intelligence. Performance can be affected by various factors including: 1. Motivation - does the subject to be tested want to do well in the test? 2. Emotional factors - if his mind is on other things he is unlikely to do well 3. Familiarity to I.Q. Tests - if the subject has attempted these kind of tests before, he is more likely to score higher than a subject who has never attempted a test of this kind before. 4. Acquired knowledge - unfortunately a certain amount of acquired knowledge is required to successfully answer certain parts of the tests. And so very many factors affect the outcome of the test but something that can be said is that someone who scores highly in an I.Q. test is likely to be highly intelligent and someone who scores an average I.Q. is likely to have an average amount of intelligence. No serious decisions should be based on the results of these tests such as whether the subject should attempt a certain type of work or enter for university, etc. Further tests should be taken to determine this information and we advise that the user regards these tests as helping him to know himself. There is no easy way to measure an I.Q. accurately. This package is designed to remedy this state of affairs by simulating as closely as possible the conditions of a formal I.Q. test, using carefully balanced tests and anybody can obtain a reasonably accurate measure of their intelligence quotient. The Tiger I.Q. Test ------------------- The Tiger I.Q. Test are omnibus I. Q. tests - general intelligence tests using numerical, literal and visual problems to provide an overall estimate of your I.Q. rating. Both tests are timed over 30 minutes. Generally speaking, the problems become progressively more difficult as the test proceeds. If you want to measure your I.Q., we suggest that you load I.Q. test one and use this test for practice so that you will have a good idea of how to use the tests and how the problems work. Then use I.Q. test two, formally, to measure your I.Q. A brief instruction sheet is avaliable at the beginning of the test. The test begins when the test sheet is displayed and question number one appears. You will notice a timer at the top right of the screen, you are allowed a maximum of thirty minutes for each test. The timer only begins when the question is fully displayed on the screen. It stops when the next question is being set up before starting again. Hence no time is lost whilst the computer sets up the screen displays. As you type in your answers, they will appear on the screen at the bottom left. Always check that the answer that you want to give is displayed before pressing ENTER as you cannot change your answers. If you have typed in the wrong answer by mistake, then use the backspace key as normal. Do not waste time if you cannot answer a problem and move on the next problem by pressing ENTER only. You will have the chance to return to it later. After question number forty, the computer will automatically run through those questions that you did not answer the first time again for you. If at any time you think you have completed as much of the test as you can, then press CLEAR to terminate the test. The BREAK key has been disabled so that you cannot accidentally abort the program during the test. At the end of the test an I.Q. score and final assessment are given and a correct answer sheet is available from the program showing the correct answer and your own answers. Note: Dots show the number of letters in a missing word (.....) shows that the missing word has five letters. Loading ------- CLOAD (ENTER) RUN (ENTER)
