Startrek ======== The Game -------- You are the Captain of the starship Enterprise with a mission to destroy all the Klingon warships in the Galaxy within a specified time. The Galaxy is split into a N by N grid of quadrants, where N can be selected by the Starship's captain. The Universe wraps around itself so you cannot fall off the edge! The Galaxy includes Stars, Starbases, Klingons and the Starship Enterprise. On the Short Range Scanner (SRS) they are represented as follows: >+< Starbase #+# Klingon Enterprise * Star Starbases allow repairs to be carried out and fuel and weapons to be collected. Klingons are scattered around the Universe and will occasionally attack if they are in sufficient numbers; i.e. three or more in adjacent quadrants, otherwise they will move out in the direction which puts the greatest distance between them and the Enterprise. Klingons will not attack if a Starbase is in your quadrant. The mobility factor (0-6) of the Klingon warships can be selected by the captain of the enterprise. The Enterprise has scanners, phasors, torpedoes and a battle computer to help you in your quest. The Long Range Scanner (LRS) always shows the current quadrant at its centre, the numbers represent the number of Klingons, Starbases and Stars respectively; i.e. A quadrant with a LRS of 203 contains two Klingons and three Stars. Stars give off solar energy which is collected by the Enterprise's solar panels. Seven Battle Commands are available: 1. Move Enterprise The computer will ask for magnitude and direction. 2. Shields Allows you to allocate energy to your force shields to protect you during attack. 3. Fire Torpedoes The computer will ask for the angle of fire. 4. Fire Phasors Allows you to destroy more than one Klingon at a time. The Phasor energy required is proportional to the distance of the Klingons and the number of Stars in the quadrant (150 energy units per Klingon is usual). 5. Damage Report Gives a damage report including the estimated repair times. 6. Navigation Computer Allows you to plot a course to a particular sector, quadrant or to the nearest Starbase. 7. Auxillary Commands Includes a list of the commands available and a Klingon search. Loading ------- CHAIN"" (RETURN) The cassette is recorded at 1200 baud and is designed to run on a BBC Model A and B computer. The program is in two parts, STARTREK and BATTLEDATA.
