Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07

As a golfer, Tiger Woods seems to be streaky. He is no question, the best golfer of this generation, but there are days, if you were watching Tiger for the first time, you would question that statement. As of late, that streak has swung in his favor, which is good enough for EA to continue to name their beloved golfing franchise after him.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 for the current gen systems and PSP also continues the hot streak of greatness as this series shows no signs of slowing up and even greater possibilities on what could be a bright future for next gen gamers. To the average gamer you probably will not see these subtle, yet important changes to the franchise, but you also probably wonder why gamers buy a new sports game each and every year. The biggest reason is there is more of what we already love from this series and the improvements are vast enough to keep us coming back repeatedly.

Visually this is the best looking current gen and PSP versions of the series. All three versions have noticeable poly upgrades, shadow effects, texturing, presentation, and new animations. On the PS2 and Xbox, you now have 21 championship and fantasy courses and 11 total on the PSP to get your swing on from The Four Seasons Resort Aviara to The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island. Each course is rich and full of detailed and accurate from the back tees to the greens. The good looks continue onto the licensed players (21 on PS2 and Xbox, 11 on PSP) as it is not only Tiger who gets the royal treatment, but players like Vijay Singh, John Daly, and even top female golfer Annika Sorenstam look fantastic with accurate likenesses and signature swings. Add in ESPN integration with an always-on ESPN ticker, ESPN Radio updates, and ESPNEWS and you have a well-rounded package that just screams sports gaming.

Audio is also more improved with a new level of crowd interaction. Now you can hear players cheer and jeer along with you depending on your performance in full surround sound. Heck you can even hear how some golfers are doing on other greens in the distance. The equipment sounds are as usual top notch with the most realistic sound bytes that capture the different ping off the ball from each club used. Let's not forget about the commentary, which brings back David Feherty and Gary McCord who are not only insightful but also are humorous to boot.

Game play remains solid with not only the left analog stick mimicking the swing motion, but this year the right analog stick will provide the perfect amount of draw, fade, and flop on a ball giving gamers the most genuine golfing game play to date. What always appeals to gamers is the pick up and play ease of the series, yet tough to master the intricacies of totally being in control of your touch, which is what golf is all about, concentration and touch.

New game modes pack Tiger 07 with great depth. You have a new Team Tour mode that allows you to assemble a squad of golfers and challenging others in a variety of game modes until you can reach the top and challenge Tiger himself and his team of champions. Of course, you still have your basic and addicting single player career that will allow you to climb the ranks, earn money, and build your reputation until you are one of the best in the world. Mini games also make their return with battle golf, one ball, elimination mode, and more. Of course, once the CPU is as weak as a kitten compared to your skill level, you can go online and compete in tournaments, leagues, and single player affairs to prove once and for all you are the best in the world.

While your casual gamer may still ask in the end, "what is so new about Tiger 07?", the hardcore sports gamer will appreciate the new features and nuances that easily make the game worthy of a purchase for any fan of the links. It is hard to deny that not only is Tiger the man a success, but his game franchise is just as successful. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 is proof of that statement, as it does very little wrong and may be the perfect swan song for the current gen consoles.
