MTV Music Generator 3: This Is the Remix

Aw yeah. Digitally remixing music can be expensive if you don't have the software or equipment to do it. But with MTV Music Generator 3 in the hizzouse, any music lover can remix tracks that sound pretty decent. The console prohibits any sharing of your creations with the masses, but it's fun to mix a few tracks in EZ format.

Music Generator 3 comes pre-loaded with 10 music tracks from artists like Snoop Dogg, Sean Paul, OutKast, Fabolous, Carl Cox, and more. Each track contains highly catchy beats that make them perfect for remixing. In addition, players can rip samples from their CDs to add a more personalized touch to the track.

It's easy to get started with a simplified menu system that separates each function of the process. The Remixer menu lets players choose from different sound variations of drums, base, rift, and vocals. Each of their intensities can be adjusted, along with the overall sound of the entire track. Next players head into the studio to dig deep into the tracks individual timelines and edit them with a block-building interface. There are tons of built-in selections to change up the drums, bass, riffs, and vocals, so you can replace the existing timelines or just plug in new ones. Edited tracks can be reviewed on the spot or looped at certain points.

Within the Studio is SampleBase, where players can add multiple layers of drum beats, melodies, or samples (8 seconds max) ripped from CDs.Each uses the same block building interface which makes things easy to edit, but at the same time prevents them from becoming more complex. Master and Channels section offer sound settings like EQ, Reverb Type, Delay, Distort, and Speaker settings.

Remixing is pretty damn fun. Every sample in the game is quality and worth inserting into the tracks. Plus when you do edit them in it sounds nice. The menu interface is clean and easy-to-use. But players used to standard PS controls like, hitting a button to go back or exiting must use the D-pad to make selections.

After players are done creating their masterpiece, it can be saved, and that's about it. The worst part about the game is not being able to fully share them through an online community. It doesn't seem likely that players will start trading memory cards to have friends listen to tracks either.

MTV Music Generator 3 is perfect for music fans that want to customize tracks for a little dough. The tools and interface make it easy to customize tracks in a lot of different ways. The only drawback is that you'll probably be the only one enjoying them.
